Michael A. Brent Sr., age 76, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 30, 2026. 

Michael was known for his love of music, his sense of style, writing beautiful poems, and his ability to offer wise and thoughtful advice. Kind, understanding, and compassionate, he was a trusted listener who was always there to lend an ear and provide guidance. As a master’s-level social worker and a Deacon at his church, Michael dedicated much of his life to serving others, his church, and was deeply involved in his community. He will be remembered for his strength, honesty, and determined fighting spirit. Michael also enjoyed playing basketball, shopping, and traveling, especially taking trips to Las Vegas. His wisdom, compassion, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife, Carolyn Brent; children, William Brent and Michael Allen Brent Jr., two bonus children, Randy and Jesscia Jamison II, and G’quari and Samantha Jamison; grandchildren, William Ja’olni Brent Jr., Jakeyvia Shakari Brent, and Jakyah Denyce Brent,  five great-grandchildren, nine bonus grandchildren, and 5 great bonus grandchildren; his mentor who graciously took his under his wing, Bishop Dennis J McMurray. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel Brent; siblings, Robert Brent, Timothy Hill Jr., Ella Mayfield, Thelma Attyberry, and Pearl Lewis; Aunt Ludie Jackson; Nephew, Garret Lance Woods; Nieces Linda Mccaleb and Sandra Phillips;  Dear friend, John Ashley. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 9th at  Renaissance Church of God in Christ, 1001 33rd St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508 with Pastor Parris L. McMurray officiating.  Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family prior to the service at church Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
