Michael A. Lamfers, age 56, of Hudsonville, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Mike was born and raised in Jenison, Michigan. He graduated from Jenison High School and Grand Valley State University. Mike loved working with his clients and fellow colleagues at Plante Moran where he was a partner for the past 13 years. If you knew Mike, you were sure to hear stories of spending time with his family. Creating life experiences with his wife and daughters was very important to him. He lived a full and active life! His love and care for his family, clientele, colleagues, and friends was evident; he always had time for a conversation. Mike was involved in the community and was committed to serving his Lord and Savior. His family has peace and comfort knowing that Mike was looking forward to meeting Jesus and spoke of the blessed assurance right to the end. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 32 years, Brenda (Van Dyke); his children, Andrea Lamfers, Erika and Will Berry; parents, Benard and Martha Lamfers; siblings, Eric and Kathi Lamfers, Rob and Ruth Lamfers, Alex and Joy Lamfers; parents-law, Bob and Marva Van Dyke; brothers–in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim and Jennifer Van Dyke, Doug and Shirley Van Dyke; several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Fellowship Church, 6610 36th Ave. Hudsonville with Pastor Shawn Hulst and Brian Boom officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Fellowship Church (please use doors C or D). Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Jenison Christian School, Baxter Community Center, Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Finding out of Mike’s passing today was hard to hear. Every time I saw Mike at client events I got to hear about all of the great times he was having with his family doing outdoor activities. Hoping his family can still enjoy these things he loved to do with them so much and feel his presence there with them.

Mike poured his soul into making the Children's Museum a fun, safe and memorable place for children. I can only imagine how much more he poured into his family. Brenda, Andrea, and Erika, My prayers and sympathies to all of you. I know your family now has a big void. I was a client of Mike for many years both in his time at Deloitte and then at Plante Moran. He was the ultimate professional to work with, and a genuinely nice guy. Over the years I did hear many stories of his favorite ladies. He was so proud of his daughters.

Brenda, Erika and Andrea and the Lamfers family, on behalf of the entire Grand Rapids Children’s Museum Board of Directors, staff and community members, we want to express our deepest sadness for your/our huge loss. We cherished Mike’s leadership, brilliance, humor, kindness, and commitment to not just our museum, but our entire community. He served 20 years on our board in every role there was: Secretary, Treasurer, Member At Large, and a rare two time President. Like so many of us, I have many wonderful memories of Mike - because of the nature of his position as CPA, not everyone got to see the playful side of him. I enjoyed seeing that when he was on the golf course - in 2020 he helped us start a golf outing so we could fundraise while we were shut down. He always played with one or both of you A and E! I also remember him talking about a few youngsters who lived next to him - he always lit up telling us stories at Finance or Exec Committees about their latest adventures. And my most recent was an email that came months after the 2022 GVSU vs Ferris game from last season. He emailed me a snapshot of the clip showing that Ferris did indeed fumble the ball that ultimately meant GVSU losing the game that would have allowed GVSU to move forward in the National Championship Tournament. I have never met a fan in any sport who loved going to GVSU football games more than Mike. I cherished those halftime talks with him in the Irwin tent. What an honor it was for all of us to have Mike in our life.

I had the pleasure of getting to know and play a few rounds of golf with Michael at Sunnybrook Country Club. He was one of the coolest guys you could ever play a round of golf with. Such a nice, considerate guy. Gone waaaay too soon. Bob Doran

Mike was pure in heart. I am so grateful for his life and his leadership as Baxter Community Center’s board treasurer over so many years. He was a man of integrity and always took time for people. He modeled being a life long learner in his humility and grace. His life was a beautiful reflection of Jesus. He will be missed.
