Mervin Nichols Jr.

Mervin Glenn Nichols Jr., age 62, of Wyoming, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Merv grew up in Rockford and Wyoming and graduated from Rogers High School. He moved to Detroit as a teenager and spent most of his life there building his career and family. Merv worked in Detroit at Michigan Bell for over 30 years and also worked as a lumber specialist at Home Depot. Merv will be remembered for his strength, stubbornness, and perseverance while battling cancer for a number of years. He enjoyed building or fixing anything, gardening, and NASCAR. His family meant the world to him and he cherished the opportunities to spend time with them. Merv will be missed for his big heart and willingness to help anyone in need, his hugs, and for his friendship and kindness towards others. He was preceded in death by his father, Mervin Nichols Sr.; grandparents, Alice and Chester Nichols; uncle, Ray Nichols; and aunt, Rose Niles. He is survived by his mother, Caren (Jim) Van Putten; sons, James (Mackenzie) Nichols, and Justin Nichols; siblings, Peggy (Steve) VanKoevering, Meredyth Nichols, Michael Nichols, Kim Suarez, Kristina Dexterhouse, Wendi Nichols, and Kandy Babb; uncle, Chris Niles; as well as many nieces and nephews. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
