Melvin “Uncle Mel” Veenboer, age 89, of Comstock Park, was welcomed home into the arms of his Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Delores “Lou” Veenboer.  Their marriage was a living example to everyone of how a husband and wife should love one another. Although they never had children of their own, Mel and Lou became parents, grandparents and great grandparents to the many nieces and nephews in the family. Mel proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Rev. Ralph Robrahn officiating. Interment Fairplains Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at First & Main for their compassionate care to both Mel and Lou. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mel Trotter Ministries.

My condolences to the Veenboer families. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of dear Mel. What lasting and loving memories of a wonderful husband! Some Bible scriptures that have helped me during times of loss include Isaiah 26:19 and Psalm 37:28, 29 which says "Your dead ones will live...They will rise up". And the Bible also says at John 5:28, 29- "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". This is possible thanks to the ransom of Jesus Christ. Thus, we have a genuine hope of everlasting life in a world without wickedness or suffering. I hope that these scriptures will be of some comfort to you along with the precious memories you have of your dear loved one.
