Max Patrick Witgen

Max Patrick Witgen, age 72, of Grand Rapids was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 8, 2023. He was born April 15, 1951 in Fowler, Michigan to the late Marvin and Ruth Witgen. Max graduated from Fowler High School and later from Grand Valley University. He met the love of his life, the former Caryl Closterhouse at Degage; they dated and got married on May 6, 1989 and she survives him. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and on the Pastoral Council. Max enjoyed a good conversation about politics or religion and loved a good meal. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Caryl Witgen; brothers, Frank Witgen and friend Linda, Kevin Witgen, Joel (Trisha) Witgen, John Witgen and friend Edna; sister, Debi Hedin; sister-in-law, Laura Closterhouse (Boyer Cole); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister; Jeanine. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Friday, June 16 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1253 52nd Street SE, Kentwood, with Fr. Peter Vu officiating. The burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to HELP Pregnancy Aid Center.
