Matthew Evan Lehmann

November 2, 1964 ~
January 30, 2022

Matthew Evan Lehmann, age 57, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with Jesus suddenly due to natural causes on Sunday, January 30, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Shirley Lehmann. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Evan Matthew Richard Lehmann; siblings, Ed and Deb Lehmann, Kim and Greg Martin, and Jonathan Lehmann; a very special aunt, Laurie Droge; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Matt was a lover of people—all people, regardless. He had an affinity for cars, especially fast ones. He loved Schnauzers and anything related to his Swiss heritage. Matt was self- employed for many years in adult foster care. He was a loving caregiver and served others selflessly. Above all else, adopting and raising his son, Evan, was his greatest joy. A private burial will be held at Rosedale Cemetery close to the resting place of his parents. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Matt was my dear friend from junior high through our young adult years. We had many adventures: seeing our favorite R&B artists in Detroit venues, traveling Europe, talking all night in those horrible dive restaurants he loved and test-driving very fast cars (we were once briefly airborne in an XJ12 as he yelled “Hold on to your bra!”). He taught me how to embrace life and to never apologize for living it ostentatiously. Matt’s was never a failure of imagination. Next time I see you my friend, we’ll both have big hair again.
