Mary Lou TenElshof, age 82, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. She will be remembered for her talents in the kitchen. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed canning, and loved baking treats and cookies to share. Some of her hobbies included sewing, crafting, and knitting. She was the queen of bargain-shopping and loved visiting estate sales and hunting for the best deals. Mary Lou also enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses. She loved spending time with her family and she will be missed for the ways she made celebrations, holidays and family gatherings special. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Slagter; daughter, Michelle and siblings, Melvin, Joyce and Bob. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jerry; son, Jeff (Margaret) TenElshof; granddaughter, Carmen and 7 other grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings: Dick (Pat) Slagter, Gail (Ken) Postma, Ellen (Marty) Jones, Paul (Mary Jo) Slagter, Leon (Sandy) Slagter, Lola (Tom) Iacovoni, Tim (Krista) Slagter, Sue (Curt) Hellum as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. James Wells officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Faith Hospice.
