Mary Lee Haywood, age 69, of Grand Rapids, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 surrounded by her family. She retired after 47 years from Meijer Inc. She loved to travel and spend time outside. She also enjoyed shopping, giving gifts, and swimming at pools and lakes. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Margaret (Harper) Belcher. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Amy Haywood, Jennifer (Raymond) Flynn; granddaughters: Amiya, Alayna, Sydney; sisters: Charlene Sleet, Diane (James) Callahan, Christine Baker, Jo Jo (Michael) Barnes; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Hillside Community Church, 1440 68th St. SE, Kentwood, with Pastor Jay Jones officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

As my best friend’s grandmother, she treated me like her own. She always knew what to say at the right time and helped keep our spirits high in the darkest days. I’m grateful to be able to meet a women as godly and remarkable as her. I hope one day be at least half the women she was. RIP to a great women! My dear beloved sister Mary,God in His providence; choose you to be named after our mom, whom you loved so dearly! Of all the five daughters, you are the one who bore out her attributes! Her humbleness,her meekness,and undying love to all. God's Word is true; and you lived a life that manifested God's love, yet it is in your transitioning, that God used you most profound! It has taken 51yrs, to reveal the underworkings and the manifestation of The Holy Spirit to complete the full circle of the work that began in our mother death!
