On Friday evening, July 8, 2016, Mary Ellen Velthouse (Wanrooy), aged 92, was called home to glory after a brief illness.  She will be greatly missed by her husband of 72 years, Marvin; her children: Ken and Mary Velthouse, Ron Velthouse, Sandy and Jon DeJonge; her 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Phyllis Lind, Barb Velthouse, Gloria Velthouse, and Norm Silvernail.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Mabel Wanrooy; her sisters: Doris and Elwood Engel, Kay Silvernail, Harriet and Alan Boyce.  Mary Ellen was a very warm and caring person, gifted with a humble spirit, and always willing to give of herself.  She enjoyed reading and embroidery, completing beautiful items to give to her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Bethel United Reformed Church, 2025 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Rev. Steve Postma officiating.  Interment Pine Hill Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, July 11, at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and 1 hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bethel URC General Fund.
