Marvin Joseph Gage, age 89, of Grandville, was called to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, October 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a faithful servant of God. He loved helping family and friends with his vast expertise in home improvement projects and repairs. He also enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, restoring antique cars, and going to area car shows. Marvin was an avid Michigan, Detroit Lions, and Tigers fan. He attended Godwin High School where he played football. His early jobs were working at Wimpy’s Burgers and Fries and later at a car wash where he learned his love of cars and making them shine. He loved to spoil the grandkids with snacks and sweets. He would sing them funny songs that we hoped the kids would not learn and sing at school. After school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he was stationed in California. While there he worked as an airplane mechanic. After the service, he worked at the C & O Railroad until he retired. Marvin volunteered to help restore the grotto (stations of the cross) which is part of St. John Vianney Church. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 69 years, Ruth; children, Stephen and Deb Gage, John and Joanne Mol, Dan Gage, Jeff and Cindy Gage, Patti Cookingham; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Frances (Esther) Gage; siblings, Leo and Helen Gage, Robert and Norma Gage, William and Delores Hill; son-in-law, Corry Cookingham. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 24 at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Rev. John Vallier officiating. Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, October 23 from 6 – 8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with a Rosary at 6 pm and on Tuesday from 10 – 11 am at the church before services. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
