Marvin Jay Velthouse

On Sunday, May 13, Marvin Jay Velthouse passed away at the age of 94. He will be missed by his children, Ken and Mary Velthouse, Ron Velthouse (Lynn Baker), Sandy and Jon De Jonge; his 11 grandchildren; his 27 great grandchildren; his sister, Phyllis Lind; his sister in law, Barb Velthouse; his brother in law, Norm Silvernail. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 72 years, Mary Ellen, in 2016; his parents, Henry and Jennie (DeVries) Velthouse; his siblings, Alice and Fred VandenBerg, John and Ann Velthouse, Gerrit and Muriel Velthouse, Bill and Gloria Velthouse, Elmer Velthouse, and John Lind. Marv loved his faithful Savior Jesus Christ all his life. He was a hard worker, doing physical work well into his eighties. He especially enjoyed hunting with Jon, and working around Jon and Sandy’s farm. He and Mary Ellen liked to visit Ken’s Emerald Lake property, and the Traverse City area. They also became master jigsaw puzzle solvers.   Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Reformed Church, 8360 Cottonwood Dr., Jenison, on Tuesday, May 15, at 11:00 with Rev. Jason Tuinstra officiating. Visitation will be held Monday 6 to 8pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and at the church from 10 to 10:45, prior to the service. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel URC Building Fund.   Rev. 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
