Martin De Vries, age 89, of Grand Rapids, went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 10, 2022. He graduated in 1950 from Randolph Public High School in Wisconsin. Martin enjoyed his career in construction for many years. He was an avid gardener and was known for his home-baked cookies. He was a long-time member of Hope and Randolph Protestant Reformed Churches. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Emma; son, Leroy De Vries; brothers: John (Nettie) De Vries, Gerald, James, and Ted De Vries. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Martin (Karen) De Vries, Daniel (Angela) De Vries, Richard (Marianne) De Vries, Cori (Jon) Hop; daughter-in-law, Sandra De Vries; 28 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Donald (Hilda) De Vries, Frank (Marie) De Vries, Henry (Barb) De Vries, Morry (Arlene) De Vries; sisters-in-law: Pat De Vries, Shirley De Vries, Sue De Vries, Connie (George) Vroom; extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Hope Protestant Reformed Church, 1580 Ferndale SW, Walker, with Rev. Jonathan Mahtani officiating. The burial will be held at River Bend Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, January 14, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, and Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Society for Protestant Reformed Special Education (6340 Autumn Dr., Hudsonville, MI 49426).
