Marlene Ruth Whittemore

Marlene Ruth Whittemore, age 88, of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Gary; and her parents, William and Matilda Telder. She is survived by her daughters, Denise and Dennis Vandermark, Joni and James Williams, Brenda Eller, and Jackie and Mark Vandiver; step-son, Terry Whittemore; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Luella Rose, JoAnn Telder; many nieces and nephews. Marlene grew up in Sparta, Michigan. She married Gary Whittemore on May 28, 1971. She spent her time traveling with her husband and exploring the United States. She lived in Florida for many years and she loved volunteering at Hudson Hospital in Florida. She was most proud when she was encouraging her grandchildren in life. Marlene loved playing bingo, going to the casino and seeing her family. She also loved her high heels. A Celebration of Marlene’s life will be held on Monday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont. A luncheon will follow the service. A private burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday, prior to service, from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
