January 29, 2026

Marion J. Van Meter, age 83, of Caledonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Marion was born in Woodland, Michigan, where she attended Woodland High School and remained proud of her roots there throughout her life. She continued her education attending Butterworth School of Nursing to become a registered nurse.  In her later years, she enjoyed her time as a snowbird, frequently spending the winter months in St. James City, Florida. Marion also had a deep affection for animals and nature; she particularly loved deer, birds, with a special fondness for the Florida eagles, and their Boston Terriers.  Marion had a gift of conversation and enjoyed talking on the phone and catching up with the latest gossip. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, and raising her children and grandchildren. She was also a co-founder of Van Meter Sweet Corn.

She dearly loved her family and will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Alfred; her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Shanon Van Meter (Riley, Mitchell), Curt and Kim Van Meter (Dustin and Sammy with their children, Calliope, Myles; and Amber), Andrew and Sarah Van Meter (Julianna, Lucas, Amelia); sister-in-law, Barbara and Ric Goozen, of Gakona, Alaska; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucille Brown, her siblings, Harold and Beverly Brown, Gordon and Helen Brown, Margaret and Bill Schleh; her parents-in-law, Alfred and Ann Van Meter.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Green Lake Calvary Church, 608 145th Ave. SE, Caledonia, with Rev. Mark Smith officiating.  Burial will be held at Lakeside Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church on Friday from 5 to 8 pm and also 10 to 10:45 on Saturday.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Green Lake Calvary Church.

Bob and I are saddened to hear if the passing of sweet Marion. We met her and Al one day in St James when we stopped on their street to see the eagles. Marion came out to chat with us and we quickly became friends and we never missed the chance to stop and visit each winter. Bob enjoyed talking with Al about fishing and the eagles and I enjoyed chatting and laughing with Marion. We hadn’t seen them since the year Hurricane Ian hit but talked many times afterward by phone. Praying that God’s peace and comfort are with the family in this difficult time.
