Maria Schmid

Maria Schmid, age 93, of Wyoming, went to be with her Lord  on Friday, October 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hellmut; son, William; son-in-law, Dave Spanjer; brothers, Karl, Kurt, and Fritz Baumeister.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Darlene Spanjer, Dorothy (Drayson) Doyle, Fred (Karlene) Schmid, John (Pam) Schmid, David Schmid; grandchildren: Robert, Paul and Jason Brown, Dan (Audra) Doyle, Don (Janelle) Doyle, Kayleen Schmid, Josiah Schmid; 8 great-grandchildren: Brianna Brown, Ashlynn, Drayson, Daxton, Deklen and Avi Elle, Ailee, Anders Doyle. Born in Germany, Maria met her husband of 66 years, Hellmut, after World War II while he was stationed there. She was a loving, warm, caring wife, mother and grandmother.  Her family was the most important thing to her. She was a wonderful cook and baker who loved to make favorite German dishes and made German Mocha Cream Torte for every birthday.  Maria loved having her brother Fritz and his wife come to the U.S. for vacations and showing them the sights of America. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 11:00 am at Banner of Christ Church, 1111 68th St SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Bruce Huseby officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, October 23, from 5 to 8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, as well as on Saturday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Calvary Church or Child Evangelism Fellowship.
