Maria De La Luz Garcia-Jaramillo

Maria De La Luz Garcia-Jaramillo age 97, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, born in Tampico, Mexico, February 9, 1927, passed away peacefully and began her journey of eternal life in full glory on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be lovingly remembered by her 8 children, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her daughter Lupe’ Woodward (October 11, 1957-September 1, 2001); sons and daughters; Maria Ana Gonzalez, Carlos Jaramillo, Helen Burnett, Robert Jaramillo, Carol Jaramillo, Ruben Jaramillo, Christopher Jaramillo.

Maria studied English and American history then became a naturalized citizen. While she was proud of her heritage, she was also proud to become an American citizen. She adored spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them Spanish and showing them how to fix things. Maria was a hard worker, independent, curious, resourceful, self-reliant with a can-do attitude and wore a multitude of hats, sometimes all at once. She loved to play bingo, keno, enjoyed painting art, doing construction projects, such as building cement steps, patios and wooden fences along with cooking and gardening. 

Maria was a loving, nurturing, welcoming mother with unconditional love. Our guiding light will live on in our hearts and memories forever as we celebrate her life.

Memorial services will be held on February 9, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at MDK Funeral Home, 3131 S. Division Ave. Wyoming, MI 49548.
