Alvarez - Mrs. Maria D. Alvarez aged 84 of Grand Rapids, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 21, 2011. Mrs. Alvarez was preceded in death by her mother, Fela; sister, Flora Garza; brothers, Jose and Jesus Romo. Surviving are her husband, Manuel of 44 years; son, Randy (Mary) Alvarez; special niece, Pauline (Ramon) Nava; sisters, Conseuelo (Noe) Garcia, Janie Lopez; many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. .Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 25, 2011at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 101 Hall St. SE, with Rev. Theodore Kozlowski as celebrant. Her family will greet relatives and friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. A vigil service will be held 7:30 PM Monday during visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice or Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
