Remembering Marguerite Schepers-Ettema

Marguerite Mae Schepers-Ettema, 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away on February 2, 2024, at Raybrook Manor surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 9, 1935, in Grand Rapids, daughter of Casper and Grace DeYoung. Marguerite married Lewis E. Schepers in 1955. Lewis died in 1973. She then married Bernard Ettema in 1998; he died in 2008. Marguerite was also preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Karen; her brother, Ronald, and his wife, Barb; her stepson, Doug Ettema; and her brother-in-law, John Vander Woude. Surviving Marguerite are her three children, Michael (Lynn) of Cincinnati, Ohio, David (Nancy) of Caledonia, Michigan, and Marilou (David) Szymanski of Conroe, Texas; her stepchildren whom she loved as her own, Debbie (Norm) Tanis, Randy (Lori), and Richard (Maria); stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Ettema; her twin brother, Marvin (Rose); brother, Alvin (Marie); sister, Arlene Vander Woude; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and 7 step great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Marguerite’s special friend and caretaker, Jane Traxler, along with the caring staff at Raybrook Manor and Faith Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Robert Van Zanen officiating. The burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday, February 5, from 5-7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Imlay City Christian School.
