Margie Elaine Wierenga

Wierenga – Margie Elaine Wierenga (Karel), age 88, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard S. Wierenga II; parents, Richard and Margaret Karel; and an unborn child. Margie is survived by her children, Richard S. (Shawn) Wierenga III., Marc (JoAnn) Wierenga, Michelle Wierenga; grandchildren, Rachael (Mike) Prendergast, David Wierenga, Alexander Wierenga, Brittany (Will) Clason, Ashley (Zachary) Wood, Megan Weidman; great grandchildren, Jackson, Charlie and Calvin “Vinny” Clason, Madison Wood; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. Rodney (Joyce) Wierenga, Gladys (Clarence) VanderVeer, Betty Wierenga; and nieces and nephews. Margie will be remembered for her warm smile, her love of life, and how loving and caring she was to everyone. She was very competitive and enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, bingo and many other games…she especially loved it when she beat “the guys”. An outdoor funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave. NE. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday, August 22 from 3 to 5 pm at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE and one hour prior to the service at the veterans’ home. Due to COVID 19, any who wish to attend the funeral at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans must receive a rapid COVID 19 test, please plan on arriving 30 minutes early to allow for test results. Masks are mandatory and will be provided, and admittance to the building is prohibited. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Kent Philharmonic Orchestra.
