Margaret VanderWilp

November 4, 1940 ~
July 6, 2025

Margaret Joanne (Langeveld) VanderWilp, age 84, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2025. She was born November 4, 1940, in Chatham, Canada, and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her father, mother, brother and two sisters in 1944. In 1957, Margaret initially met what would be her future husband, a Dutch Immigrant named Andrew VanderWilp on a beach at Hoffmaster State Park. Their courtship officially started a year later when they met again at a roller skating rink. They married on June 3, 1960, and remained married for 64 years until Andrew’s passing on October 1, 2024. In addition to her husband, Margaret is preceded in death by her brother, Art Langeveld; and brother-in-law, Bert Wierenga. Margaret is survived by her five children, Carol (Ron) Kaminski, Mark VanderWilp, Brian (Sue) VanderWilp, James (Kathy) VanderWilp, and Kevin VanderWilp; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Jeanne Wierenga and Dorothy Montoya; and sister-in-law, Fran Langeveld. Margaret will be remembered fondly for her making of pumpkin bread and Dutch banket, as well as knitting baby outfits and blankets for donation to expecting parents. She was always kind to all who knew her and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Steve DeVries officiating. Please join the family for a luncheon immediately following the funeral at the church. The burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Optimal Care Hospice

Margaret will be missed for her easy-going quiet spirit, and also because she was our go to person who always knew dates/years of everyone's birthday or anniversary in the family.

So sorry to hear about Margaret’s passing. We grew up together in the same neighborhood. She was such a kind soul. My sincere condolences to all of her family.
