Mae “Oddie” McDonald, age 89, of Grandville went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 2, 2023. Oddie was born in Amarillo, Texas and was 18 years old when she joined the US Air Force. She met her husband, Frederick, in California while they were both serving in the military. They later moved to Michigan and would spend 68 years together until Fred’s passing in January of 2023. Oddie cherished being a homemaker and raising her four children. She also worked in the cafeteria at Grandville High School from 1972 until she retired. She will be remembered for her endearing Texas accent, her home cooking and her love of dogs. Oddie will be greatly missed for her kindness, generous heart and love for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Frederick, her parents and siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cathleen Johnson, James and Mary McDonald, Vicki Stephens, Jeffrey McDonald; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Oddie and Fred’s 69th wedding anniversary, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville with Fr. Stephen Durkee presiding. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, October 9 from 5-7 p.m at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.
