Madeline Isabel (Hatherley) Fields, McGann, age 99 passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was born on July 19, 1917 to the late Vern and Iva (Barr) Heatherley in Lowell, Michigan. Madeline was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 47 and a member of the Altar Society of St. Dominic’s. She went to work at Steelcase Inc. in Grand Rapids from 1947 to 1961, they moved to Kingsley, Michigan where she and her husband, Leo Fields, became the owner of the Kingsley Hotel and Bar. Madeline then retired from United Technology in Traverse City in 1986. She moved back to Grand Rapids in 1986 and there married John McGann on September 21, 1991 at the age of 74. She was always a hard worker and her favorite entertainment was to go dancing. Many will remember seeing her and her husband dancing the entire evening every Friday and Saturday night. In December of 2007 Madeline and John moved to Buckley, MI. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Kuhn of Buckley, MI; daughters-in-law, Joan Wiggins of FL, Carolyn Fallin of Remus, Karen Fields of Jenison; stepsons, John (Deb) McGann, Mark McGann, Craig (Michele) McGann; stepdaughter-in-law, Lynn McGann; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Madeline was preceded in death by her husbands, Leo William Fields and John McGann; sons, Leo (Duane) Fields, Harold Fields, Orville Fields; daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Joe Fleese; stepson, Martin McGann; sister, Ona and Jack Miller; brothers, Lester Hatherley, Richard and Fran Hatherley, Gerald and Noreen Hatherley; granddaughter, Donna Hailaday; great-grandson, Caleb Fields. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11:30 am at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE with Fr. Phil Shangraw officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral chapel on Monday one hour prior to the service. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Kidney Research Foundation.
