Mabel Tickner

TICKNER - Mabel L. (Stewart) Tickner, aged 108, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Medard Tickner; father, A.M. Stewart; mother, Sara (Endricks) Stewart; sisters, Lucille Shimer and Nadine Crowl; brothers, Frank Stewart and Lowell Stewart. Surviving are her daughter, Sue (Tickner) Fletcher of Kentwood; grandson, Andrew Reed Fletcher, great grandson, Graham Reed Fletcher; nieces, Naida Dewey and Lois Stewart. Mabel was a graduate of Watervliet High School, Western State Normal College, later receiving her Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Western Michigan University. She taught in Parchment, MI school district while also serving as the Principal of Barclay Hills Elementary School. Mabel was an avid reader, walker and world traveler, visiting more than a dozen foreign countries after retirement. Mabel's life will be commemorated through a service at the Parchment United Methodist Church on August 18 at 9:30 AM.
