Lynn B. Schmoll

March 18, 1946 ~
May 26, 2024

At the age of 78, Lynn passed away from this life. Born in Klamath Falls in Portland OR in 1946, he held degrees from Lewis and Clark College (where he is twice in the Sports Hall of Fame) and Mercer University. He attended Officer Candidate School and served as an officer in the US Army. He worked in logistics in the military and private enterprises and eventually retired from the Department of Defense as a civilian. In retirement, he worked with nonprofit organizations both as a volunteer and entrepreneur.

He was especially proud of his work with nonprofits, career in international logistics, and his extensive travels – which included having literally traveled around the world.

He loved his family. He is survived by his spouse and best friend, Cheri. He was her greatest admirer. His daughters, Corinne Keuning, and Debi Bonecutter; and his son, Michael Tomlinson, also survive him, and he cared for them deeply.

Further, he is survived by his sons-in-law, Brad Keuning, and Lee Bonecutter; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed his time with them fishing, reading, and generally having fun. He will also miss his sister-in-law, Diane, and three nieces in Texas.

His wise big brother, Jay; and favorite aunt and uncle (Joe and Ruth); and parents, Raymond and Beatrice Schmoll, all preceded him in death.

He will miss his friends with whom he worked, traveled, fished, golfed, and enjoyed time well spent. He was especially proud of his role in originating the “second rounders’ discussion group”.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, MI, with Rev. Rebecca Armstrong officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Refugee Education Center in Grand Rapids.

Dear Cheri and Cori and the rest of the family, So sorry for your loss. So thankful that we had the privilege of being connected to your family for a short period of time. What a blessing to have had Cori in our lives and the friendship that she and Angela had. It was always so comfortable to let Angela spend time in your home because I knew what wonderful people you all were. Cheri, you and Lynn had a very caring and respectful relationship with each other and that is hard to find at times. I know Lynn will be greatly missed. Blessings, peace, and comfort are prayers being offered up on your behalf. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Dianne Low

I never knew Lynn but I know he was a fortunate man to meet Cheri, one of the sweetest ladies in our STP class of 1964. God bless you Cheri. I know you will miss him very much.

My heart, love and deep sympathy go out to Cheri, Debi, Mike and Corinne. I am so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. .. I only know of Lynn and that he was a good man, a loving husband and a blessing to all that knew him. Lynn was a great father to all of his children. May he rest in peace ..

Lynn is my wise and most favorite uncle, which I reminded him often. I recently enjoyed multiple q&a’s with him regarding the family history. While I encouraged him to write a book of memoirs, which he agreed he had some great tales to share, he didn’t quite get that completed. I’m so sorry he didn’t get to get those published for all to enjoy. He had great perseverance and the Lord gave him such a pure and loving heart. The angels must be rejoicing to have such an intelligent and comical soul amongst them now. I hope he is with all of his heavenly family now. He loves his family here so much and he surely misses them greatly as they all do him. We lost a good one here on earth. No one can fill his shoes, so we shall hang them on the wall and use them as our example of how to live life with love, gratitude and with charitable hearts. He is already missed. God bless each of you, Cheri and family, as you navigate this difficult time. Much love and so many prayers, Carolyn, Tim, and the entire Helm Family
