Lynda Downing

Lynda Arline Downing, age 77, formerly of Allendale, is now fully embraced once and for all in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Lynda was born in New York to parents Howard and Mary Myers and grew up in various areas of Ohio and northern Indiana. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University, and attended Earlam Bible College in Richmond, IN - training on which she depended for three years spent as a missionary nurse in Haiti. Upon returning home, she embarked on her career in nursing across various specialties, before spending the final 20 years of her career doing medical case management for a few different insurance companies. In addition to nursing, she kept herself busy as a pastor’s wife at churches across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan. Lynda regularly played the piano and organ for worship services and placed a high priority on developing the children’s ministries at these churches - often starting completely from scratch - among too many other tasks to list. She genuinely viewed the ministry as a calling God had placed on her own life, and not just that of her husband at the time. Lynda will be lovingly remembered by her children, Daniel and Tonya Downing, James and Susan Downing, Stephanie and Anthony Haney, Joseph and Amy Downing; grandchildren, Aiden, Zachary, Zoey, Sam, Owen, Hannah, Charlotte, Finn, Tate, and Clara; sister, Deborah and Robert Reusser; several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 1 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 6651 Scott St., Allendale with Rev. Brady Mulder officiating. The burial will be held at Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, May 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Holland.
