April 29, 2021

Lorraine Feenstra, age 68, of Allendale, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Key; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Joyce Feenstra; brothers-in-law, David Feenstra and Roger Feenstra; nieces, Laura Feenstra and Laura Grossenbacher. Born April 2, 1953 to Ted and Cathy Key, she grew up in Coopersville, attending Allendale Christian School and Unity Christian High School where she met her husband, Rob. They married while she was attending Calvin College and resided in Allendale. She had a passion for music and taught piano from her home while raising her children and then returned to school, attending Grand Valley State University, where she obtained her music education degree in December 1999. Hired by West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics, she spent 19 years teaching choir, piano, voice lessons, music theory, and directing musicals. Her passion for music and her students shone bright at WMAAA and she was loved by her students. Lorraine’s love of Christ was also evident in her life as she was involved in her church and community as choir director, organist, GEMS leader, Kids Hope mentor, various committees, and had begun a job in her church office after retiring from WMAAA. Lorraine enjoyed spending time at her trailer with her Crystal Lake Campground family. She and Rob loved to travel and took trips to England, Scotland, Ireland, Europe, Alaska, Peru, and more. Lorraine loved her grandchildren with all her heart and enjoyed having them at her house, as well as making sure to go to as many of their concerts, sporting events, plays, and other activities as she could. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 47 years, Rob; children, Amy (Peter) Clark, Katie Hughes, Joel Feenstra (Lauren Abraham), Adam (Michelle) Feenstra; grandchildren, Peyton, Leah, Samara, Sarah, Isaiah, Tyler, Jacob, and Nathan; mother, Catherine Key; siblings, Ken (Cathy) Key, Jim (Pam) Key, Pat (Den) Grossenbacher, David (Nicole) Key; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janice (Herb) Everman, Bern (Cheryl) Feenstra, Grace Feenstra, and Margaret Feenstra; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 11 am at Second Church of Allendale, 6950 Lake Michigan Drive, with Rev. Adam Nordyke and Rev. Harold Veldman officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, May 4, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Second Church. Lorraine was my grandma and we did so many things together. We built a Lego Titanic, she brought one of my friends over so we could hang out for a day after the school year ended. She also had a recipe for homemade cookies and she taught my sister how to make them. may Lorraine (My grandma) live on forever in our hearts. -Isaiah Hughes, her grandson

Lorraine taught my two daughters at WMAAA. She helped Emily discover her voice and talent for singing. She carries that with her today. Thank you Mrs. Feenstra for sharing your love of life and love of music.

My sympathy to the Feenstra and Key families! I too grew up in Coopersville, attending the same church. and taking that same daily bus ride to Allendale Christian. We were all like family!! I'm so sorry to hear of your loss but what a joy to see how beautifully and vibrantly Lorraine's life was lived out! What an immense blessing! May God's grace sustain you all in your loss!

My condolences to the Feenstra & Key families. Our families (Key and Scott) grew up as neighbors in Coopersville. Lorraine and her brothers waited together at the corner with us to catch the bus to Allendale Christian. She was a beautiful girl inside and out. Our paths continued to touch through the years, but not often. She lived such a full life and will certainly be missed by many. May memories be held dear, and peace given to the family. What music she is now making in heaven!

Rob, we were so sorry to hear that Lorraine lost her battle with cancer and COVID. We know and rejoice that her hope has been been fulfilled and her faith made complete, but we also know that the string of death is real for you and your family. We are praying for the presence and comfort of the Holy Spirit in the midst of your grief.

I am sorry to see that Lorraine has passed away. We probably haven't seen other since high school, but I remember her as being a fun and kind person. She was a gifted musician. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Lorraine taught more than music, her example of love of life, family & friends will not be forgotten. Always available to listen & share. She was fun loving and a true follower of her faith. Some people’s light shine so bright that a little still remains long after they leave us. Such is true in Lorraine.
