Loraine M. Cyr, age 100, daughter of Marines and Pearl Wierda, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cyr; brothers, Earl Wierda, Donald Sinclare; sisters, Grace Bonnema, Yvonne Taylor, Norma Green, Vivian Wierda, Helen Wierda, Ruth Fast. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Gerene (Larry) Heemstra, Charlene (Roger) Gabbert; grandchildren, Reg and Cindy VandenBosch, Christopher VandenBosch, Timothy Sr and Denise Gabbert, Terry and Laura Gabbert; great grandchildren, Lauren VandenBosch, Collin and Alli VandenBosch, Sophie and Hugh Davis, Cole VandenBosch, Tim Jr Gabbert, Sarah Porter, Mitchell Porter, Emmalee Gabbert, Alex Gabbert, Ethan Gabbert, Aiden Gabbert; four great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mae Baker; nephew, Delmar and Janet Fast. Loraine was a kind, loving, contented, happy, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Loraine worked at Arlans and was active with her daughters in Bluebirds and Campfire Girls. She also enjoyed volunteering at school to care for the preschool children. Her husband Bill was on the Paris Twp./Wyoming Fire Department and she would gather up coffee, donuts, and sandwiches to take to the firefighters. The ladies were known as the “Fire Lassies.” Her favorite thing though was spending time with her family; especially the grandchildren, who were all boys, and great grandchildren. She and Bill were very active in their church, Grand Rapids First. They were known as Mr. & Mrs. “Prime Time.” The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Beacon Hill Assisted Living for the wonderful, kind, and caring support Loraine received there, as well as the caregivers at Corewell Hospice. Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 17 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Todd Smith of Living Hope Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be held at the G.R. Home for Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, November 17 from 10 - 11 am at the funeral home before services. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Beacon Hill Assisted Living.
