Remembering Lois Eileen Greenlund

Lois Eileen Greenlund, age 76, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, after being diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Aaron Hendrick; sister, Linda Nash; brother, Jim Greenlund; her parents, Thora (Anderson) and Elof John Greenlund; and her sister-in-law, Maggie Greenlund.  

Lois is survived by her children, Alicia (Joe) Force, Scott (Tina) Hendrickson, Kurt (Kelly) Hendrickson; grandchildren, Alaina (Czar), Evan (Hayley), Kaleb, and Izak; brothers, Charles (Wendy) Greenlund, Robert Greenlund; sister, Lolly (Tony) Walkons; brother-in-law, Wayne (Jill) Nash; and many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. 

Lois grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and graduated from Rapid River High School. She later moved to Grand Rapids with her sisters, where she met and married Rick Hendrickson. After raising their three children as a single mother, she remarried Scott Hendrick, and together, they welcomed her fourth child, Aaron. 

Lois was a free spirit with a warm and effortless smile. Her genuine presence attracted many close and loyal friends over the years.  Lois had a deep love of God and family. She sang often and cherished her sisters. She enjoyed writing, reading mystery novels, and her Bible. She was extremely proud of her 100% Swedish heritage. 

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 5-8 pm, at The Gilmore, 5179 W. River Dr NE, Comstock Park.

After just finding out today that my dear friend passed my heart is hurting. I am so sorry for your loss. Lois was a sweet, loving and kind person with a heart for God. I first met Lois when she began working for Neil Blakeslee where I was employed. We became friends immediately. That friendship continued after we both moved on from Neil's. We spent time going dancing, frequenting the casino, having a beer or two, or many times just visiting over a hamburger and coke. She was the type of person if you didn't connect for a few month you could and would pick up where you left off whenever you got together next. When I retired and moved to Indiana we kept in contact by internet. Sometimes a month or several would pass ....then we'd reconnect. I eventually moved to Alabama. On her a birthday i sent her a wish and she never acknowledged it. I knew something was wrong. When I started checking I found her obituary. I know that she's at peace and happy in the presence of the Lord. But she will forever be missed and loved by me. Till we meet again dear friend....

I met Lois through Kathy Smart, what a blessing from God❤️ They needed a cleaning person at the Condos, so Kathy told Lois about me. When her and I met we were both delighted!!! She let me stay with her when she got word of my home being majorly damaged by sewage, and what a blessing! To laugh, sing, talk, etc....my cleaning jobs would give me clothes and we would have such fun going through them, and I will cherish every visit before and after that time of staying with her. I loved her free Spirit and authenticity. God truly blessed my life for the better from day one of meeting her. Prayers and love to all her family and friends. She will truly be missed. She was truly a beautiful woman! Inside and out.❤️🕊

Alicia, so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I am so glad we all got to meet and that our parents got to meet a few times. I know my parents had very good memories of visiting Lois and all of the Greenlunds over there. Now they get to meet in heaven with no language barrier. I know what it's like to lose a parent, thinking of you 🙏. Greetings to you all from us back here in Sweden ❤️

I’m glad to hear that she’s no longer suffering and you all can be in a little bit more peace. I will always remember her loving and simple presence. She was the aunt that was closest to being like Grandma Thora in her simplicity. It could often leave me wondering why I couldn’t be more accepting of seeming contradictions and let questions rest… she was always there being aunt Lois… I will deeply miss her.

I am so very sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. Lois and I have been friends for years and years, first meeting her when she moved to Grand Rapids with Ruth Ann after they graduated from Rapid River High School. She came to work at Morrison Industrial Equipment Company, where your Aunt Linda and I worked, and we’ve been good friends ever since then. Time and circumstances tend to distance us from each other, so I was very happy to be able to reconnect with your Mom within the last couple of months. I have always known her to be a fun-loving and faithful friend, and our friendship has spanned almost 60 years. I will try to be at her Celebration of Life event on November 2nd to rejoice with you all in her passing from this worldly life into life everlasting with our Lord and Savior. My wife Marlene and I first met Lois when she was married to Scott Hendrick. She was a devoted mother to her children and a woman of faith in God. Since we live in North Carolina we did not see her often, but enjoyed her company whenever we could get together. Our sympathy goes out to her family members and friends.
