Lena Plooster

Lena Plooster, age 100, was born to Jake and Adriana (Etta) Vlietstra on December 26, 1923, in Stickney, South Dakota. She passed away on August 14, 2024, in Grandville, MI.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Herman C. Plooster, who passed away on August 13, 1982 - 42 two years prior to Lena passing almost to the day.

Lena was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Ade, and Andy Vlietstra. She is survived by and will be remembered by her sister, Cathy Tuinstra; as well as by her daughter, Pam (Harold) Griffioen of Grandville, MI and their children, Traci (Paul) Rozich, Todd (Nancy) Griffioen, Chad (Erin) Griffioen, Brent (Jessica) Griffioen;  and her son, Gary (Sherri) Plooster of Phoenix, AZ and their children, Gavin Plooster, Kris Krueger, Logan (Karli) Plooster, and Ryan Plooster.

She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews, and many very dear and special friends.

Lena moved from South Dakota to Wyoming, MI just prior to high school and graduated from Lee High School. She was always a very hard worker and was even involved in the WWII effort by making parachutes. She loved spending time with family on summer vacations at the lake and water skiing. She loved traveling with Herm. She was intimately involved in each of her grandchildren’s lives and loved playing games. She endeared herself to and is fondly remembered by many of her Avon customers as a friend and encourager. Earlier in her life she was active in Olivet Reformed Church, including preparing meals for special events in the life of the church, teaching Sunday School, and many, many other aspects of serving.

A visitation with family will be held for friends and relatives from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday September 20, 2024, at MKD Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Drive, Grandville, MI 49418.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity that brings honor and glory to the Lord.
