Lawrence Robert McPhillips

Lawrence Robert McPhillips, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 22, 2022 only a few days before his 89th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sandra; parents, Leo and Florence McPhillips; siblings: Leo, Jim, Pat, Betty, Gertrude, Marie, Dick and Marvin. He will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Theresa and Thomas Barry of Julian, NC, William and Lora McPhillips of Oconomowoc, WI, Lawrence and Raachel McPhillips, Laura and Gerald Campbell of Wyoming, MI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lawrence worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for 41 years. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as the president of the Van Buren County Right to Life organization and served in the US Army. Lawrence had a passion for crafting and flying RC airplanes, birdwatching, bowling, playing instruments and singing. He loved his grandchildren and they will treasure the adventures and fun times spent with him. He will be remembered for his wild sense of humor, strong-willed spirit and love for his family. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 pm on Friday, October 28 at St. Alphonsus Church, 224 Carrier Street NE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Bill Edens presiding. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 pm with a rosary to begin at 7:30 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Avenue SW, Wyoming. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grand Rapids Baby Pantry of Catholic Charities West Michigan.
