Laura M. Lameyer

February 16, 1943 ~
July 3, 2021

Laura M. (Van Bruggen) Lameyer slipped off to GLORY on Saturday, July 3, 2021 after a prolonged illness. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. Left behind are her husband of 57 years, Jerry and their four children: Matthew and Marianne Lameyer, Sarah and Jay Wittmeyer, Elisabeth and Ron Metzger, Ella and Tam Tamunokonbia; nine grandchildren: Mara and Matt Johnson, Ben Lameyer, Sam Lameyer, Annika Lameyer, Alysson Wittmeyer, Elliott Wittmeyer, Anna Wittmeyer, Amity Wittmeyer and Elise Tamunokonbia; brother, Edwin Van Bruggen; sister-in-law, Nola Van Bruggen; sisters, Karen and Arnie Baker, Ilene Van Bruggen; sisters-in-law, Eileen and Rog Busscher, Judy Lameyer; nieces and nephews.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education from Calvin College in 1964, Laura became an elementary school teacher. Her love of children and education as well as a deep faith in the salvation of Jesus Christ alone resulted in a lifelong passion to honor the sanctity of all human life. Laura was involved in the Right to Life movement, backyard Bible clubs, prayer chains, countless gentle faith-based encounters in the lives of her own children and grandchildren as well as all children around her. Along with her husband Jerry, at the age of 52 she became an adoptive parent to baby Ella Ruth. Her attention to detail was exhibited by careful selection of spoken words, meticulously organized closets and drawers, beautiful writings, legendary penmanship and excellent posture. She will be greatly missed.

Memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Jay Wittmeyer officiating. Burial 10 am Saturday, July 10 at Forest Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Pine Ridge Bible Camp of Cedar Springs.

Mr. Lameyer, I woke up this morning and thought of you; thanking God for the joy and blessings he gifted me through you. So, I looked you up online and found out about the loss of your dear wife earlier this year. I remember her as such a steadfast and compassionate woman. I am sorry for the season of sorrow that you and the kids will have to journey through. May the LORD, in all His fullness, be near to you.

Jerry, at one of our cousin's dinner gatherings you spoke of the great heritage of faith our parents left with us. Our prayer is your faith in Christ will bring you peace in this time of sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Jim & Nancy Bosse

Ella & entire family, sincere condolences. From the tributes I can see she was a woman of God full of love. Although I never met her, I can see the fruit of her labor in you. May God’s comforting words and spirit avail for you at this time in Jesus’ name.

The Lameyers have been great friends for many years. We are saddened with you by Laura's homegoing for your sakes, but rejoice with you for Laura's homegoing for her sake.

Laura was a faithful prayer warrior for Belmont Bible Club (and maybe also during the time I taught Kids [Bible] Club at Butterworth St. Fellowship for 14 . years) in and a great encourager. She shared her heart with me too.....during the time Ella was at Pine Ridge Bible Camp. No doubt about it...she loved the Lord. I admire so very much how you, Jerry, took care of her during the difficult time of her brain bleed and long after. You even helped her get the prayer requests I emailed when her fingers could no longer do it herself. I only know the 3 of you Laura, Jerry, Ella and rejoice with you that Laura is now with the Lord which is "better by far"!

My giving sister. When visiting our home Laura always came with gifts - food, or objects with sweet memories attached, or useful items. And when visiting her home, a person could rarely leave without a present of some type. She also gave freely of her time and her faith......
