Larry Lee Gort, age 84, of Wyoming, passed away surrounded by his family after a brief illness on Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and son, Darren. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Scott Gort, Quentin (Jodi) Gort; daughter, Carie Gort; granddaughters: Ashley Getty, Cami Jo Gort, Caitlin (Corey) Hill, Jessica Morgan, Mike (Ashley) Morgan, Jared Martin, Courtney (Fred) Gewirtz, Haley Gort; grandsons: Corey (Beth) Keane, Casey Gort, Alex (Lindsey) Gort, Hayden (Amber) Gort, Nick Mercado and his partner Camille Sawicki, Dylan Gort; great grandchildren: Bryce, Donovan, Jayden, Abbie, Lincoln, Bodhi, Collin, Cameron, Jax, Carter, Grayson, Kennadie, Piper, Walker and Zoey; plus many nieces, nephews and long time friends. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1955 to 1959. He married the love of his life, Joan on April 11, 1959. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, collecting coins, golfing and skydiving. Larry worked for the C&O Railroad for over 40 years where he made many lifelong friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, a devout Christian, compassionate person, who embodied the qualities of honor, commitment, loyalty, courage and unconditional love. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2350 44th St. SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Rob Schmidt officiating. Burial at Grandville Cemetery. Family will meet relatives and friends from 10-11 am on Monday prior to the service at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Darren L Gort Memorial Foundation (940 Monroe Ave NW, Unit 124, Grand Rapids, MI 49503).
