After a full and happy life cut short by an intense, but brief battle with cancer, on June 8, 2016, Larry L. Parmeter took his last breath on earth and is now with his Heavenly Father. Those who have spent any time with Larry will remember his intense love of the outdoors and nature. He took great pride in his land and managing its resources and wildlife. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, boat, camp and travel. He greatly enjoyed a good meal because it was a way for him to spend time with friends and family, while sharing the riches harvested from his land. Larry had great respect for his Native American heritage which he paid tribute to through his thankfulness for the many joys he received from the land around him. Always willing to try something new or explore new places, Larry enjoyed planning vacations, holiday meals, or outings with the grandkids. He was a man who could carry on a conversation with anyone about most any topic, which meant he quickly made new friends wherever his journeys took him; he was the epitome of a “people person”. He enthusiastically took up woodcarving in his later years, finding a way to maintain his joy in nature in spite of his health troubles which kept him closer to home, away from the woods that he enjoyed. He has been reunited with those who have gone before him: his father, Benjamin Parmeter; his sister-in-law, Sharon Parmeter and his younger brother, Craig Parmeter. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Violet Parmeter; his precious mother, MaryAnn Parmeter; brothers, Dave Parmeter, Dale (Dawn) Parmeter; sister, Jodi (Duane) Baker; step children, Angela (Randy) Buys, Andrea Ward, Tom (fiancée, Jessica) Ward; six wonderful grandchildren, Caleb, Emily, Kaitlin, Josh, Jackson, and Karissa; aunts and uncles; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Following Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial services will be held on Monday, June 13, 3pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Pastor Gordy Barry officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 2-3 pm at the funeral home prior to the service and are invited to gather for a time of sharing memories with the family at a catered meal immediately following the service.
