Larry Humphrey

HUMPHREY - Larry Dean Humphrey, age 86, of Rockford, MI, moved on to heaven to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 18, 2018. Married for 45 years, he is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Rey Stone Humphrey from Hopkins, MI. Charlotte and Larry were both second time married. Larry was born in Mishawaka, IN on June 11, 1932 to Tracy and Alta Humphrey, both deceased. Larry lived most of his life in Comstock Park, MI and attended Comstock Park School until he graduated and went proudly into the US Army. He served in the Korean Conflict and is a longtime member of Post 47 in Comstock Park, MI. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence. Larry is survived by his children, Richard (Paula) of Conklin, MI, Linda of Phoenix, AZ; step-children, Renate (Jeff) Merritt of Belding, MI, Leonarda Lawes of Old Town, FL, and Amber Wakefield of Fremont, MI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. After working for 20 years at the Kent County Road Commission, Larry went back to school at Michigan Tech University, and off of that campus, he was hired by the Corp. of Engineers in Jacksonville, Florida, so he moved there. After a year, he was offered a permanent job in Alaska working for the Department of Agriculture and he moved again. He returned to the lower United States after three years and worked in south Clewiston, Florida for the Corp. of Engineers. Three years later, he was transferred to New Orleans to work for the same company and five years later he began to work for the Department of Defense leaving and coming home to Michigan after completing his time there. After returning to Michigan, he worked for the State of Michigan until he retired. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 23, 2018 at Algoma Baptist Church, 10515 Grange Ave. NE, Rockford, MI. Larry's family will greet relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont and one hour prior to the service at church.
