May 1, 2025

Kimberlee Jo Brown was born on August 3, 1960 to James Otis and Isalene (Hill) Arnold in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the third born of five children in a loving and close-knit family.

After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, Kimberlee went on to earn her Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Junior College. She continued her academic journey at Eastern Michigan University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Demonstrating her unwavering dedication to education and excellence, she later earned a Master of Business Administration from California Coast University. As an African American woman of her time, her achievements in higher education and the finance industry were not only impressive — they were trailblazing.

Kimberlee’s faith in God was a cornerstone of her life. Inspired by her mother Isalene, and nurtured at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, she developed a deep and personal relationship with the Lord. Over the years, Kimberlee was a devoted member of several congregations, including Serenity Christian Church, Hope United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Church, New Creation Church, West Angeles Church of God in Christ, and Greater Mt. Zion Church in Austin, Texas.

Her spiritual journey extended into service. Kimberlee studied scripture, theology, and ministry at West Angeles Bible College. Most recently, she served as the founder and leader of the GriefShare ministry at Greater Mt. Zion, offering compassionate support to individuals coping with the loss of loved ones. Her empathy, wisdom, and faith left a lasting impact on many lives.

Kimberlee’s love for giving back to her community also steered her professional life, dedicating over 40 years in the non-profit sector, focusing on impoverished, underrepresented, and neglected communities. Her career spanned across states and organizations, including the Coalition on Temporary Shelter, Jewish Vocational Services, Akron Urban League, the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty of San Diego County, and California Calls, an alliance of grassroots organizations. She most recently served as the Director of Finance and Administration for United Way of Texas which focuses on systemic change through policy and advocacy. Kimberlee was not only a skilled professional, she was a respected leader who led with integrity, offered steady guidance, and earned the trust of colleagues and partners alike. In addition to her formal roles, Kimberlee served on numerous boards and was an active and valued member of her homeowners association.

Kimberlee married twice in her life, to Randall Epps and Bobby Brown. From these unions, she was blessed with two beloved children: her son Evan and daughter Kristina. She was a devoted mother, a constant source of strength and guidance, and a pillar in their lives.

Her journey took her from Michigan to Ohio, California, and ultimately Texas. A woman of many passions, Kimberlee was an avid reader and a dedicated member of book clubs. She led an active lifestyle and enjoyed Pilates, Zumba, and roller skating. Her creative spirit thrived through painting, baking, and gardening. She found joy in dancing, traveling, spending time in nature and giving back through volunteer work with various service organizations. More than anything, she treasured moments with her family and close friends. Kimberlee nurtured relationships with compassion, humility and a genuine presence.

Kimberlee was preceded in life by her father James Arnold, mother Isalene (Hill) Arnold, and sister-in-law Kim Arnold.

She is survived by her children Evan Epps and Kristina Brown; step-children Ryan Brown, Portia Brown and Bianca Brown; siblings Richard (Robin) Parks Jr., Howard Parks Sr., Pamela (Barry) Day, and James Arnold Jr.; many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kimberlee departed this life on May 1, 2025, surrounded by love and in the comforting presence of her faith. Kimberlee Jo Brown’s legacy is one of grace, service, strength, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
