VanZanten, Kevin Kevin VanZanten, age 35, of Allendale, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, February 10, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. (II Tim. 4:7-8) Kevin was a devoted husband, dad, son, brother and friend. His contagious personality of genuineness and joy was evident to all who knew him. He was kind and selfless, a true friend to all who knew him. Kevin enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, ice fishing, and most of all a passion for boats. His strong work ethic and love of boating led him to work for RDV Corporation most recently as a boat captain. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kristin; their children, Brianna, Claire; parents, Jill and Gary Ferdig, Fred and Lisa Flower; grandmothers, Rena Brand, Vivian Flower; siblings, Dave and Marcie VanZanten, Matt and Kelsey VanZanten, Todd and Heather Ferdig, Karry and Greg Rensberry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emily and Alex Lengacher; 13 nieces and nephews. A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Saturday 11 am at Ada Bible Church, 8899 Cascade Rd. SE, Ada, with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-9 pm and Friday from 6-9 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott St., Allendale. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Brianna and Claire’s College Fund.

Kevin was the best roommate I ever had, the best friend I ever had, and I will always remember our times together. He was a giant of a man with a heart and a personality to match. Kevin made my unbearable job bearable, because I had the honor of hanging out with him at the end of the day. He filled my high school years with laughter and joy, adventures in old muscle cars and jet-skiing on lake michigan. After college he helped me out by splitting rent in my first apartment (and cooking up some amazing food). I know he's in a place of great love and joy where we will someday meet again soon. I'lll never forget him. Jaden DeVogel

I worked with Kevin, but in a different building. One day we were crossing paths, I hardly knew him, but he bellowed out "whaddup Dee"? As we approached he smiled and followed with "licious". That was years ago, but I was always reminded of that moment when I often asked the same thing of my son Dylan. BTW, I never did it as good as Kevin did. Dennis Fink
