Kenneth R.  Doornbos

Kenneth R. Doornbos, age 88, of Jenison, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 24, 2014 and is now home, free of pain with his Lord and Savior.  He was a kind and gentle man who led his life by example.  Ken faithfully served his Lord at First Jenison Christian Reformed Church with his time and talents as an elder, deacon, custodian and in many other ways.  He retired after almost 30 years of dedicated service from the US Post Office in Grand Rapids.  As a WWII veteran, Ken proudly served his country in the US Army.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; sons, Bruce and Don Doornbos.  He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Janice and Doug Brower, Gary and Karalee Doornbos, Ron and Karen Doornbos, Bryan Doornbos, Marlene Cooper, Dan Doornbos, Carolyn and Roger DeJong, Kim and Steve Steigenga; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; siblings, Leona Matthysse, Dr. Milton and Jeanne Doornbos, Marie Doornbos; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice Austin, Joyce Austin, Velma Austin, Verna Austin, Tom Murphy; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Greg Ross, Soulivanh Thammavong, Mr. and Mrs. John Zylstra.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 11 am at First Jenison Christian Reformed Church, 8360 Cottonwood, Jenison with Pastor Adam Barton officiating.  Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 3-5 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.  In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to Kelly and Brian Tompkins for the adoption of their son, Peter, who is Ken’s great grandson.
