January 14, 2026

Kenneth Kwantes, age 95, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully and entered God's eternal home on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Ken was born in Grand Rapids in 1930 to the late Frank and Jeanette Kwantes. He attended Grand Rapids Christian High School. It was there he met Irene De Boer. Irene (lke) and Ken were married on December 11, 1948. They had 75 years of love and adventure and are together again.

Ken will be greatly missed by his three children: Kenneth J Kwantes (Mary) of Rolla, MO, Michael G Kwantes (Marcia) of Holland, Ml, Kathleen Sherrow of Sarasota, FL. He enjoyed his nine grandchildren: Jennifer Kwantes (Paul Wimmer), Jonathan Kwantes (Wendy Hibner), Jason Kwantes, Matthew Kwantes, Daniel Kwantes, Caleb Kwantes, Joanna Kwantes, Lydia Kwantes, and Biruk Kwantes; and cherished his 4 great-grandchildren: Collin Wimmer, Kyle Wimmer, Vivian Kwantes, and Nathan Kwantes. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Peter and his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Janet Feenstra and her husband, Ernie; and his son-in-law, Chet Sherrow.

Ken enjoyed all sports but participated in golfing, fishing, hunting, card playing and bowling. In bowling, he dominated the Grand Rapids city bowling tournament in the mid 1950's by throwing a big left-handed hook ball. He also really enjoyed playing cribbage with family and friends. Ken owned and operated Robert's Venetian Blind and Shade Shop for many years and later worked as a maintenance technician for various companies due to his mechanical expertise. Ken was a lifelong member of the East Leonard Christian Reformed Church where he served in many leadership roles.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ken’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids, Ml.
