Ken, age 87, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lorene Heibel; infant son, James F.; and son, Lawrence R. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn F; his children, Kenneth M. and Kathleen, Stephen G. and Debra, Katherine and Gerald VanVelsen Jr., Dennis R, Kimberly, Theodore D. and Sandra; 25 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Ken is also survived by his siblings, Theola and Robert Andrews, Lloyd and Marilyn Heibel, Joyce Meyerink, Donna Ahrens, Shirley and James Thurkettle, Patricia Cooley, Marilyn Dewey, Lorraine Olejniczak, and Carol and George Persons. Ken proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 32 years of employment at Steelcase. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, riding motorcycles with the boys, travelling, and going on cruises with his wife. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1630 Godfrey SW, Wyoming with Fr. Stephen Dudek presiding. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, and also at the church Wednesday from 9-10 am prior to the service. A vigil will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Emmanuel Hospice.

Dad, thank you for all you have done for me and my family. I did not always appreciate the advice or want it, but it helped me be who I am. I will always love you and will cherish our "gambling" trips. I know you are free from pain. Watch over me and my family please. Say "HI" to Larry and the rest of the family that greeted you at the pearly gates. Love you and miss you always. Your daughter.....
