Remembering Kenneth Berry

Kenneth Bruce Berry, age 68, of Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Ken was the best of men - a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, father-figure, and friend who lived life to the fullest. He was warm, accepting, outgoing, and gregarious. Ken was someone who could and would strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He had so many people who loved and cared about him, including a large family and many circles of close friends. Wherever he went, he brought laughter, energy, and joy. Often the life of the party, Ken had a special way of making people feel welcome and turning ordinary moments into memorable ones.

Ken lived an active life and enjoyed being outdoors. He found happiness in biking, hiking, playing pickleball, and camping. For much of his life, he played and loved hockey. He also appreciated the simple pleasures in life: listening to live music at local restaurants, watching the neighborhood awaken from his front porch, toasting the sunset on the beach, or relaxing with a good book. Ken’s love for life, his friendly nature, and the many connections he made along the way will be remembered by all who knew him. His presence brought so much happiness to others, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Newsted and Darrel Berry. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years and best friend, Sally Berry; his brother, Richard Berry; his sister, Denise (Jim) Thornton; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) at 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Kevin VanderKlok officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, October 29, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 30, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to LMA Turning Pages Tutoring or The Humane Society of West Michigan.

I couldn’t write it any better than Dean Andrew’s did, except to say Larry and I were very lucky to call him brother My walking, talking, book sharing buddy. You will be dearly missed Cecilia and Larry West

Amy and I have known Ken, Sally and extended family for more than three decades. He started out as my manager in the early ‘90’s and ended up being one of my closest friends for life - the brother I never had. We loved getting together with Ken and Sally whether it be helping us pitch a tent in the dark after the rest of the family and friends had arrived, or celebrating our son’s West Point graduation or wedding or hiking in Brown County with our grandkids or just chilling over a vegan pizza and scratching our heads over the day’s political headlines. With Ken, you felt seen and heard. And he made you feel like you mattered because you really did matter to him. Our family is better off because Ken touched our lives in so many ways. Our hearts are broken and we mourn his loss with Sally and the rest of the family. We commend his soul to the hands of the Maker (of whom he was not a stranger).Rest in God’s peace, Ken. We love you.
