Spaans, Ken Kenneth Duane Spaans, age 49, of Jenison, went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer that he fought with the support of his family. Meeting him in heaven are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Jeanette Daning; step-father, Bill Huyser. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Lori; children, Channon and Chelsea Spaans with a grandchild on the way, Justin Spaans and his fiancée, Amanda Ellison, Krystal Spaans; mother, Eva Huyser; father and stepmother, James and Cathy Spaans; sister, Sheryl and John VanRoekel, Marcia Simo; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; his dog, Jaz. Ken was a diehard Jenison football fan. He enjoyed coaching baseball and softball. He led the Georgetown 2005 softball team to the Jr. Softball World Series. According to Ken’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Tuesday 1 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Ken asked that you come in casual attire. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Stand Up to Cancer. "No one fights alone."

I will always remember working with Ken, he was such a wonderful guy and always had something nice to say. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We all loved when he came in to visit us even after he was sick. Lisa Hawkins
