Katherine Syde

Katherine Vander Syde, aged 85 of Wyoming, departed this world on Friday, July 5, 2013, and went to her heavenly home. There to greet her was her Lord and Savior. Along with the Lord, her sister, Anna Vander Syde; sister and brother-in-law, Magdalena and Sam De Kam; brother and sister-in-law, Anthony (Tony) and Rose Vander Syde; and the rest of her family. Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Henrietta and Garrett Tilstra; brother and sister-in-law, Merrill and Ruegena Vander Syde; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Katherine worked as an LPN for many years, working at Pine Rest and Booth Hospital and finally retiring from Blodgett Memorial Medical Center where she enjoyed working with newborn babies. Katherine was a Christian woman and prayer warrior, who attended Immanuel Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends; there was always a fun jigsaw puzzle to work on and a bowl full of candy. Katherine enjoyed her many vacations with her friends. They saw many wonderful places around America. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 8 at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 33 Elwell SW. The family will greet relatives and friends Sunday 6 to 8 PM at Ronan-Vanderpool-Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave. and one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. A Tribute about Katherine from her sister Henrietta Tilstra: Katherine VanderSyde was born November 30, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Minnie (Toering) VanderSyde. They moved to Iowa where she attended various country schools for eight years. As a young girl she worked for her aunts doing many different jobs and also helped her parents on the farm for several years. She went to Minnesota to work at a factory and bakery. Katherine moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked at Pine Rest as an LPN nurse. She loved working in the children's ward. A blind girl knew her by her voice. She then worked at Booth Memorial in the nursery which she enjoyed. She moved back with her parents and took care of them which made it possible for them to take a trip to the Netherlands so her dad could visit his family which he hadn't seen for several years. Katherine was crafted at crocheting and knitting of which she made several Afghans, doilies, baby blankets, and baby clothes. She enjoyed traveling to many different areas with her girlfriends. She attended various activities and was a member of the Christian Reformed Church. Katherine will be missed and cherished by her family and friends.
