Karen Shineldecker, age 75, of Big Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior while surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Karen enjoyed being a mom and a grandma and doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Big Rapids Eagles. Karen was also free-spirited and loved to go for drives, often to nowhere in particular, but she especially loved to visit Fremont. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Vellenga and Frances Vandenberg; stepfather, Marvin Vandenberg; uncles, Olin Sunderlin, Joseph Sunderlin, and Robert and Helen Nelsen. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, John (Nicole) Shineldecker, Kari (Patrick) Bernard; grandchildren, Lilly, Audrey, Shelby, Garrett, and Hannah; sister, Marla (Robert) Bowman; stepbrother, Robert Vandenberg; and the Nelsen family of Grant, Michigan. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. The burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
