Karen McKinnon

Karen Sheila McKinnon (Dane), 82, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away early on Labor Day, September 4, 2023, at Forest View Hospice in Grant, MI after a long illness.

Karen was born on April 18, 1941, in Concord, New Hampshire, and graduated from Nashua High School in 1959. Karen is the daughter of Alfred Dane (1921 - 2004) and Rita Lillian (Sargent) Dane (1920-2006) of Concord, and is survived by her three sons, Michael J. McKinnon of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Robert J. McKinnon of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and William L. McKinnon of Newaygo, Michigan. Karen had six grandchildren: Dana Marie McKinnon, Lillian Marie McKinnon-Dane, Robert J. McKinnon, Alex D. McKinnon, Thomas J. McKinnon, Daniel J. McKinnon; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander Jordan Zad and Brayden Leo Zad.

Karen spent most of her life in and around Grand Rapids, where she raised her sons. She loved board games, playing cards, and was an expert at Scrabble and crossword puzzles. Karen also loved music, particularly bands from the 1960’s and 1970’s with Fleetwood Mac as one of her favorites.

Special praise for Bill McKinnon from Michael McKinnon and Robert McKinnon for his compassion in managing Mom’s healthcare and affairs for the past several years, right up to the day she died. Billy spent countless hours watching over Mom, and we are eternally grateful. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 1-5 pm at 3260 Salerno Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
