Juella Medendorp, age 96, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully in Byron Center, Michigan on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. She was born on August 19, 1921 to Nancy and Henry Remelts. She married the love of her life, John James Medendorp, on July 3, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Juella was a devout Christian her entire life and a member of several Christian Reformed churches in the Grand Rapids area. She and John worked for American Laundry their entire careers where she was an accomplished silk finisher. In her later years, she devoted hours to various volunteer efforts including the Twice Nice Resale Shop. She loved God, family, friends, travel, playing piano, reading, playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles, as well as good conversation. Throughout her life, Juella’s knitting talents provided beautiful gifts and bazaar sale items. Her family will always be grateful for the ways in which she shaped their lives with morals, humor and compassion that they will pass along to throughout ages. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John; her sister, Dena Walburg; her brothers, Fred and John; and her son-in-law, Gerald Tryon. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her children, Sandra Tryon of Wyoming, Michigan; Dale (Trudy) Medendorp of Crystal Lake, Illinois; Joy Kneppe of Parkersburg, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Medendorp of Grand Rapids, as well as, nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Roger Groenboom officiating. Interment Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Juella and John (always one word) were very important to our family. The time we spent together will be remembered. I still remember your mom’s distinctive voice when I remember those Sunday evening visiting.
