Judy France

October 13, 1947 ~
September 18, 2025

Judy France, age 77, of Alto went to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 18, 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kevin; her parents, Jack and Trudy Hekker; brother, Jim Hekker; mother and father-in-law, Merle and Marie France; infant sister, Geraldine Hekker; brother-in-law, Warren VanAllsburg. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Phil France; their children: daughter-in-law Bethany France (Kevin), Carolyn (France) and Chris Matthysse, Chris and Jenny France; grandchildren: Maddie, Colter, Alek, Sophia, Cooper, Topher, and Lindsey; sister Jackie and brother Jerry; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Nancy and Pat Burchardt, Karen and Carl Elliot, Paul and Barb France, Marsha and Jim Ray; many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.

Judy had a beautiful soul, and touched many lives. She began her professional life as an executive secretary before dedicating herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother and volunteering for The Parent Aide Program. She offered friendship and support for parents who were struggling and worked specifically with 3 troubled parents and their children for several years. Judy later served as Director of Religious Education at Holy Family Church, where she grew the program through her faith and leadership. In her later years, she embraced her most cherished role as a loving and devoted grandmother. Judy was also a talented cook and baker, known for preparing each person’s favorite dishes with joy and care.

Judy had a heart of gold and a Christlike spirit. She was beautiful inside and out. She was dedicated to her family and was always there for them-not once did she ever miss being there for something important even when her mobility became an issue. But even beyond that, she took care of those around her and made a difference in the lives of countless people. Her joyful spirit and kind, generous heart were known throughout her community and beyond. She hugged often, complimented more and consistently lifted up those around her. She always made time for the people in her life and listened whenever they needed her. She inspired those around her to be better people. She was a world changer in that way-many people have said they wouldn’t be who they are without her love and influence. She was always selflessly taking care of others without looking for credit for herself. She did things with a pure heart and a strong steadfast Christian faith.

Funeral mass will be held 11 am Friday, September 26, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church with viewing from 10 to 10:45, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia, with Rev. Michael Cilibraise and Rev. Loc Trinh co-officiating.  Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 pm with a Wake Service at 7:30 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St. SE, Caledonia.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Phil and family, it was sad to hear about Judy's passing. I only met her briefly a few times but heard a lot of good things about her family and volunteer work, motivated by her strong faith in the Lord. May God bless you while mourning, and lead you in the days to come.

Jude has been such an important person in my life for almost 40 years. As a very close friend, we shared frequent lunches, we worked on several church projects together, we were trusted confidants, and prayer warriors for each other. I will miss her beautiful smile, her soft spoken encouragement, and gave each other the best hugs that always ended with "I love you so much". Jude will always be in my heart. Until we meet again my dearest friend. 🙏❤️
