Remembering Judith Hoezee
Judith Hoezee, age 87, of Fremont and Jenison Michigan, passed away peacefully and joyfully into the arms of Jesus on July 27, 2026. Great is His faithfulness. She is now reunited with her husband of 54 years, Doug Hoezee, her son David, and her parents, siblings, and many dear friends who went before her.
Judy was born and raised in Hudsonville, Michigan, and graduated from Unity Christian High School. She went on to nursing school and became an LPN, serving faithfully for 20 years at Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, before retiring as a Discharge Planner. She and her husband Doug made their home in Fremont, where they raised their four children and built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. Those who knew Judy will remember her steadfast faith, strong work ethic, generous heart, and willingness to serve wherever she was needed—in her church, her community, and beyond. Judy loved gardening, quilting, sewing, and spending time volunteering. Judy was also well known in Fremont for her exceptional pie baking and took great pride in her Dutch heritage—especially her work with the Dutch Kitchen and her countless batches of oliebollen. She and Doug were active members of Trinity Christian Reformed Church, where they were invested deeply in the life of the church and in Christian education. After retirement, Judy volunteered at the local Christian school thrift stores, The Nest and Revive, joyfully supporting a ministry close to her heart. Her servant’s heart extended far beyond her local community. She spent several years running the blood-mobile and donated over 14 gallons of blood herself. Together, she and Doug volunteered with CRWRC, Wycliff, and Rehoboth Christian School, and traveled in their fifth wheel to assist with hurricane disaster relief throughout the South. Judy was grateful for the many trips she shared with Doug, from summers in Pentwater, Michigan, to travels across the United States and Europe. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Judy is survived by her children, Mike (Dawn) Hoezee, Terri (Dave) Oostendorp, Julie (Jeff Sheffel) Hoezee; her grandchildren, Ryan Hoezee, Amanda (Brad) Erickson, Tyler (Britney) Hoezee, Kara (Jace) Andrus, Nick (Lenox) Oostendorp, Jake (Autumn) Oostendorp, Sam (Alex) Oostendorp; her 8 great grandchildren, Honey, Ledger, Montgomery, Nolan, Hugo, Winnie, Arthur, Lennon; her brother Don Vander Laan; sisters in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Larry Hoezee, Dawn Latter; several loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 4, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. The burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, August 3, from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Fremont Christian School, Faith Hospice, or consider donating blood to the American Red Cross.
