Joyce Harriet Toonstra

On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, Joyce Harriet Toonstra, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully served for 82 years.  Joyce graduated from Pine Rest Christian Hospital Nursing School in 1955 as an LPN.  She, with her husband of 57 years, served many congregations in the Christian Reformed Church.  Joyce displayed her creativity in her sewing, painting and hand work.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Martin Toonstra and granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy Arringdale.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dawn Arringdale, Pat and Dan VandenHoek, Pam and Gary Van Veen, Jeff and Lynn Toonstra; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Sylvia Timmer, Leona Hubers, Judith and Charles Corwin, Harry and Ruth Van De Riet; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jeanette Barber, Johanna Turner, Henry and Henrietta Toonstra, Ruthe Toonstra, Edward and Marilyn Toonstra, Arnold and Thea Toonstra.  A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442 36th Avenue, Hudsonville, with Pastor James Admiraal officiating. A private family graveside service will be held prior to the service at Rosedale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday, May 31, from 6-9 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Cornerstone United Reformed Church.
