Joe Skeel, age 86, of Byron Center, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven siblings and their spouses, sister-in-law Janet Zaagman. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Ann; his children, LuAnn (Randy) DeCommer, Rachelle (Ted) Krings, Russ (Fran) Skeel, Pam (Brad) Arnold, Gary (Myrna) Skeel; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Zaagman, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Joe valiantly served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for part of his enlistment. Joe was a dedicated plant manager for Packaging Corporation of America for 42 years. He was instrumental in establishing the company fire brigade. Joe was an avid golfer and deer hunter. He thoroughly enjoyed taking care of his yard and frequently had people stop by and compliment him on it’s condition. Joe was devoted to his family, rarely missing one of his children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events. He continued to follow the Godwin Wolverine sports even after the kids graduated. He also loved getting the family together for dinner or other celebrations. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Zinger officiating. The burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Cancer Society of Grand Rapids or the Alzheimer’s Society, Great Lakes Chapter.
