Watkins, Joseph Michael WATKINS – Joseph Michael Watkins, aged 28 of Grand Rapids passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 23, 2014. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Walter Owens; and grandmother, Dorothy Watkins of Colorado. He is survived by his children, Joseph and Josiah; his parents, Kenneth and Debra (Beaty) Watkins; sisters, Jennifer (Jason) Poort, Jamie Anderson; brother, Jezreel (Amber) Watkins; grandmother, Genevieve Owens; birth-mother, Barbara Berkholder and birth-father, Micky LaMaster. Joe loved working on cars and as a child helped the neighborhood kids repair their bikes. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Memorial services for Joe will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo SE with Pastor Ken Shady officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service on Saturday. For those who wish, the family requests that memorial contributions be given for the needs of his family and children.

Joey you were the first friend I ever had. We grew up together and shared a lot of good times. It's hard to understand God's will at times but I know he is taking care of you now and I hope you are at peace.
